Secretary of State Candidate Has a Major Financial Stake in Canadian Tar Sands | OnEarth Magazine

I did not know this about Susan Rice. Did you? I know that the reasons the Conservatives were opposed to her were not based on her private financial holding. But now that I see she is a member of the 1% and much of her private financial holding are in energy and banking interests a HUGE questions is raised for me about her ability to make a decision about fracked oil pipeline that the Secretary of State will make for the Obama administration. Makes me want to know more about the financial holdings of administration officials even if they are put in a blind trust.. The relationship of wealth to civil service is important to understand. If the average Joe or Jane can not afford to step up and only the wealthy do .. what does this mean for the 99%. I don't mean to be simplistic. I know that wealthy people can rise above their class interest, But is this the norm or the exception. Today I am glad Ambassador Rice with drew her availability to serve as Seretary of State. Does anyone know where her wealth comes from? Family? Inheritance? Earned?

Imagine this happening in a democracy> Well it did in NYC .. Boss Christine Quinn send a press release out 5 hours prior to the City Council vote on the NYU 20Year development plan stating the results of the vote. When Greenwich Village residents arrive to witness the historic vote, Speaker Quinn who represents many of the people present never once in two hours looked up to the Balcony where the public had been placed. When the NYU Plan came up a few people in the balcony murmured at how she introduced it, She said with out looking at the public that if the public were not silent she would remove them.. it was a Margret Thatcher arrogant abuse of power moment. One elderly grey haired resident of Washington Square Village where the 20 year plan wil take place yell out"liar" and Boss Quinn shouted "Sargent of Arms remove them" .. they did and here is what happened outside / listen closely the audio is sometimes weak .. be sure to wait for the lawyer .. he is quite direct about what has happened.

GOOD NEWS On May Day a work-group of Occupy Wall Street joined forces Healthcare-NOW to filled the hole left when the Coalition for a New Village Hospital was folded into a campaign for City Council by Yetta Kurland leaving many members hanging who do not support her. The loss of a Hospital on the West Side of Manhattan still a critical problem with no Hospital with a trauma 1 emergency room from 160 Street to the Staten Island ferry. A die-in was held to show what will happen in a critical health crisis. Medical students, MDs, nurse practitioners, local residents , occupiers and some members of Hands Off St Vincents participated. Much the dismay of the elected officials who let this hospital die so luxury condos could be build. The community whose medical needs are not being served will not give uo. This group crossed political lines and is diverse in its partipantrs to reflect the community at risk. . Please listen watch and listen to what one doctor and some residents have to say about health insurance and the need for a full service hospital

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I hope you will join me in attending and speaking out for the health care needs of our neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan at the March 6th City Council Land Use Committee to approve or reject the Rudin Real Estate Corporation's Development plan to place 450 luxury condos where St Vincent's stood for over 150 years and converting the O'Toole building at 12th and 7th Ave into two 23 hour observation bed Urgent Care Center which will not be able to care for people in a life or death health crisis.

This will be the last time the PUBLIC will be allowed to SPEAK

I will speak against the plan and in favor of the O'Toole building being converted into a 300 bed hospital with a real emergency room that respects the zoning and land marking designation for the location. Until the Rudin's agree to support a hospital I, and I hope you, will opposed their development that has no affordable housing and destroys the zoning rules and puts profit above the health needs of a community. .

It is for me a life or death vote by the City Council.

Please attend and speak up. Our collective bodies and voices can still stop this plan.

Here are some of the rules I was told by Speaker Quinn's office that will be in place for the public hearing.

SHOW UP please.

----------------------

Please be advised that if you plan to speak at the land use committee meeting, the last public meeting prior to the City Council vote on the Rudin Development plan at 250 Broadway on March 6th you must SIGN UP PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING of the meeting which STARTS at 9:30 AM. If you remember on Yetta's LOBBY DAY security checks made it was almost impossible to get upstairs to meet with Council people prior to their leaving their office to hear Boss Quinn give her Speaker's State of the City Council speech. It takes time to go through security. PLEASE note that I did ask Quinn's office about the size of the room and the ability of the public to both watch and participate. I am sharing the response despite the warning attached to Quinn's office response that it was confidential information. Remember that at the final CB2 meeting the room was filled with construction union members (paid to be there ) and Rudin PR and legal reps who had their seats held by people paid to arrive early and sit in the seats . So I suggest you arrive at 8AM to both sign up to speak and be in the room.

Hope to see all of you there

jim fouratt

please forward to your friends and neighbors ..and if you know someone who lives in NYC...thanks
---------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Fouratt,

The hearing on Tuesday is a public meeting, and therefore all attendees will have the option to testify. We are prepared for a large turnout, and there will be additional rooms from which those who arrive after the hearing room has been filled will be able to watch the hearing.

Best,

Allie Nudelman

You can sign up prior to the hearing starting at 9:30. They will be calling names so you'll be able to hear your name being called from the other rooms, similar to the City Planning Commission hearing. The chair of the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises is Council Member Mark Weprin.

WHY CAN'T BLOOMBERG PRACTICE WHAT HE PREACHES?

Today Billionaire Mayor Bloomberg donated $250 thousand dollars in matching funds to Planed Parenthood to replace the funding loss when the Susan B Kromem Cancer Foundation defunded Planned Parenthood in response to right wing attacks over women's right to control their bodies. bloomberg proclaimed POLITICS SHOULD NEVER INTERFERE WITH HEALTHCARE...nice words . Too bad the Mayor did not follow them when he remained silent over the only hospital serving the lower West Side was shut and is now being converted to luxury condos.... please read, share and take the action recommended at the end ot the post.

Wish more 1% would be mindful of their social responsibility . Nice move Mike... But come on Mike is not your silence on the closing of St Vincent's the only hospital serving over a million residents, working people and tourists on the Lower West Side a political act on healthcare? The only trauma 1 Emergency Room so important in any kind of pandemic health crisis closed feels like a very political act that served the interests of the Rudin Real Estate Corporation to build luxury condos in a space that had saved people's lives. Your silence was quite loud to me and other seniors who now have no hospital/ What we will have in three years is a high enter, profit incentive faux hospital with two , 23 hour holding beds to serve in a health crisis like a heart attack, a stroke,o. a blue baby or 9/11 scenario. Not a hospuital but a high end Urgent Care center which will shuttle critical patients to real hospitals across town, traffic willing. It sure seems quite similar to what Susan B. Kornen folks did when they stopped the program to give breast exams to poor women Denial of health services.
